Within three amazing steps that works!

Are you getting tired of that instant 'no' every time you asked your parents for things? We've all been there, sometimes. When it comes to decisions, parents play a significant role in your life to decide what is the best option for you.

However, sometimes their best decision doesn't always seem be your best option. It's not wrong to be a little bit persuasive to show your parents that your decisions matter, too. You have your own choices, and you just have to convince your parents about it. So, what should you do to overcome your parents disagreement?

It's fairly easy, follow these steps on how to convince your parents.

Step 1: Prepare yourself

Being mentally prepare, is what you should do before you are having a talk with your parents. Before you decide to ask your parents for their approval, you have to prepare certain things that will help you to achieve what you want:

First thing first, get to know what you really want. Find more information about it, do a little research. Gather as much information as you can get. It might be perfect for you to predict what your parents will concern. For example, if you want to travel abroad, your parents will ask you, "Where are you going to? Who are you going with? When? Why?" or other questions related to it.

Be ready to answer those questions and prepare your best answer. Remember to explain it as clearly as you can, so they know you know exactly what you are talking about.

Consider the 'pros' and 'cons' for your choice that you will take. Now that you have figured out more information, there will be both 'pros' and 'cons' to deal with. It is not easy to lure your parents when there are more 'cons' than 'pros'. But, if you really want to get it, you have to emphasize on the 'pros'.

Write it out on a piece of paper. Create a table of 'pros' and 'cons', for you to determine the positive and negative impacts that could happen. Therefore, you should differentiate between Needs and Wants. You have to make sure you have set your priorities right and be realistic of things that you want. Then, you will know how to make your wants into realization.

No matter how much you want it, don't lie to your parents about the consequences or the risks of your wants. That's not how to convince your parents work. Be honest for your own sake.

Consider the right time to ask your parents. This is really important. You don't want to get an instant 'no', do you? Get to think about the timing carefully. Study your parents behavior and notice small things that could be a hint on how your parents will react to you.

Don't ask them in a poor situation, such as, in a moment of hurry or when your parents are doing something that makes them don't pay attention to what you are saying. Also, avoid the time when your parents just got back from work or when you feel like they are not in a good mood. You know your parents best.

The right time won't work if you are not in the right place. Choose the most comfortable area in your house, so you can talk with your parents in a laid back kind of situation. If you want to talk outside your house, such as, restaurants or cafe, avoid to talk to them in crowded place where they can't focus on the conversation. Make sure you and your parents are settling in a nice place, safe and sound. If you pick the right time and place, it will increase your chance to get your parents approval.

Remember in this first step, you have to think about the things that you will be sacrifice your patience and effort for. Make sure it is worth the time.

Step 2: Convince them through your action

Walk the talk. Simply, because having the talk is just not enough. Your parents need to be convinced by your action. If you know talking to your parents won't just make them approve your request, you have to change yourself in a positive way that will assure them. To prove them, you deserve it.

You can start off by doing small things. Change the way you view things, behave nicely. Parents are looking over you every once in a while. Parents love to see their children improving on the what's important for them. Do your chores or earn good grades at school. If you behave nicely, it does not rule out the possibility that they will change their mind.

There is a saying, all roads lead to Rome, it has been used since medieval ages and became popular because most people can relate the phrase to a life journey. With the meaning, it does not matter what roads we take to reach it, we still have the one destination in mind. The same case with how to convince your parents. You have one goal, to convince your parents. All you have to do is to take whatever ways that will make you achieve it.

There are other ways to try on how to convince your parents. You can definitely try think of another plan or change your strategy.  What other things you can do for your parents? Make your parents feel special. If you can cook, make some meals for them. It will melt their heart away. Always keep in mind that, you can always do this. Not only when you want something from them.

Besides that, do show your responsibility in whatever you are doing. Show them that you are responsible for your choices. Sometimes, parents just want to see your seriousness. This point will work best, if previously your parents have seen your responsibility. If you had mistakes in the past, try to let go and open a new chapter of life. Convince your parents that you are not who you were in the past.

Is being responsible sufficient to make your parents trust you? Show your parents you are trustworthy. Bring up times when you earned their trust. Is it that time they give you a pet to look after? Or anything that proven your commitment. They mostly want to trust you.

This is the step when you begin to show who you really are. A good person? A well-behaved son? A nice daughter? Make your parents feel proud of you. You can't expect something worth coming easy. Even if you are not doing good for your grades, keep reaching for it. Find ways to be the best version of you. You'll eventually be there.

Step 3: Talk to your parents

It's time to get in action. In this step, you should try your best to convince your parents. Don't escalate the conversation and let it flow naturally. You can start by a normal conversation. Give hints or tell a story. For example, if you want a new bike, you can give them hints that you are in need of a new bike because they old one's broken. State your obstacles and explain why it is a problem for you to have a broken bike, or why you need a new bike because the old one does not support your activities.

Get to the point, or else your parents will think you are not serious. You can open up the conversation by point out the needs, tell your parents that you are in need of it.

People say, "don't raise your voice, improve your arguments." It's true. Especially, if it comes to when you have to talk to older people or even your parents. Keep your voice tone. Remain calm and under control when you are talking with your parents. You have to be patient and wait for their response. Don't beg, ask maturely. Show them, that you are already grow up, and you will make a commitment as an adult. Never shout at your parents. Don't use words that can hurt your parents at all cost.

Another thing to be highlighted is, you have to ask for their opinion. It is better to listen to your parents opinion first. You can find out what your parents thinking about things that you want. Then, you can arrange your opinion towards your parents to persuade them to agree with you. There's a trick, if you're a daddy's girl or a mommy's boy, try to talk to one, the most closest to you. Cling to one parent, your mother or your father, if you have to.

Don't forget to bring up the benefits, explain to your parents why you desire the things you want, or be who you want to be. Also, the chances that it will bring benefit for you academically, or personally. Tell your parents the benefit they will get from granting your wishes.

Convincing your parents will cost you time and effort. They won't easily accept your reasons and explanations. They need more and more commitment, probably because they have known you for so long. Some parents make deal with their children by negotiating. Here are some tips on compromising with your parents:

  • No Pain No Gain

It's not easy to negotiate with your parents, but it is possible! It's a good thing for you, if you can compromise or negotiate with your parents. It is a win-win solution. Your parents get what you want from you and vice versa. Nobody's hurt.

  • Don't Argue

However, don't argue with them. You can speak up about your opinion, reasons, and explanation, but don't get into a debate. If you get declined, take some time and prepare another strategy to convince your parents.

  • Keep Your Promises

After you seal the deal, keep your promises. Avoid making promises you won't keep. Do what you obliged to do, and avoid what nots that will break the deal. For instance, you want to buy a brand new shoes, but in regards your parents ask you to not coming home late and always do your chores for a week. So, you did it the whole week and succeeded. They bought you shoes. But when you didn't make it as the deal, you didn't get the shoes. You won't lose this chance, right? Make the right decision by being wise.

What if they still not being convinced?

The last thing to do is to speak with your heart. Every parents wants the best for their children. Sometimes they don't show it directly, but they want you to speak up with your intuition as their children.

Don't worry, you can always work your own way with your own savings, if you want. So, you can provide your parents with a solution and give them more option. Let's say you want a DSLR camera and you have saved your money for a quite long time, it covered up half the price, but how about another half? You can ask your parents for the half price to get a matching fund. That way, it will be easier for both you and your parents to actualize your wishes.

Be more appreciative of every single thing your parents have done for you. Ask your parents with gratitude and tell them how much you thank them for it. Don't be mad with your parents if your wishes are not granted. It's better to for you to looking forward to another option and keep moving on with your life.

Finally, those are the steps on how to convince your parents. Parents need to trust you. Once they are convinced enough, they will give you what you want. It will be a great thing if you can convince them, that you are working hard to earn it. Every children know their own parents best, after all. You don't need any reason to not speak up for your own choices now. Simply because, now you know how to convince your parents.
